A few weeks back we had author Lucetta Zaytoun join us for a book reading on our national book tour. We so enjoyed the visit and were lucky enough to have Lucetta read a couple of stories to the group. Her tour continues around the US, which you can follow on her website.
We hope you enjoy the pictures! If you haven't checked out her website yet, click here.
I've prayed using the Serenity Prayer for 20 years and I am struck by how much it centers around change.
Change is also a very important part of life. Some of us deal with change on a daily basis, while others do not. How do you view change in your life? Is change a "friend" or "foe"? How you view change has a great impact on how you live your life? ![]() Join us as we invite Lucetta Zaytoun to the Twin Cities to talk about her new book - It's Already Tomorrow Here. She has set off on our tour around the US and will have a lot to share with us from her journey. We will provide snacks and beverages. For more information, please visit our Facebook Event.
The idea of synchronicity suggests that there are no such things as accidents in life. What we might attribute to chance or an "accident" is more likely to be the deepest unfolding of a person’s life. With the idea of synchronicity comes the belief in a higher power.
A Higher Power can be something/someone beyond or different from myself. God and Higher Power always involve the people with whom we rub shoulders and interact, so it is important to be discerning about whatever these people might be revealing about certain aspects of our life’s purpose. Is there an event that took place in your life that had significance to it that may be more than cause and effect? Do you believe in God? If so, how did you come to learn about God? Are you more comfortable thinking instead about a Higher Power?
In this video we continue our discussion on synchronicity and how it affects our daily lives.
I recently read a book by Mario Martinez called The Mind Body Code. In the book, Dr. Martinez talks about our mind wanting to have order in our lives and when sequencing is disrupted, it opens us up to experiences of meaningful coincidences or synchronicity. A meaningful coincidence can be a deep connection like meeting your spouse or getting hired for a new job. It could also be a disconnection like losing someone unexpectedly or losing your job. Even a disruptive or seemly negative experience can have a positive effect on our lives by bringing us to the place we are meant to be in this world. How has an meaningful coincidence influenced your life? Was it a deep connection or a disruptive connection?
In this video we are going to be talking about the idea of synchronicity. There are important events in our lives that can sometimes go beyond cause and effect. The concept of synchronicity was first explained by Carl Jung stating that events are "meaningful coincidences".
Have you had any "meaningful coincidences" in your life? When you think back on those events, where did the experience take you?
In this video, I discuss one of the four pillars of gratitude which is courage.
We need the courage to change, to begin to do something different, as well as, reach out for the support to keep doing this new behavior. Having the courage to change the things we can change—invites us to take risks and courageously try to change even when the idea of change may cause us as feeling of unrest—which is not a feeling of serenity. As you watch the video, ask yourself: What obstacles have you faced in your life which you overcame by being courageous? Can you express gratitude for these moments of courage?
Sometimes we can be uncomfortable receiving gratitude from someone. We need to not only need to practice expressing gratitude, but also on how to receive it.
How do you receive expressions of gratitude from others?
In this video, I would like to reflect more on gratitude. Gratitude is an aspect of many traditions.
Gratitude is more than a feeling. It's a commitment to act and to express things to others. How do you give thanks or express your gratitude towards others? Who are you grateful for in this life? |
AuthorLike millions of people in Twelve Step groups around the world, Mark T. Scannell has had an intimate relationship with the Serenity Prayer. A decades-long veteran Twelve Stepper and former Roman Catholic priest, Scannell explored the origins of the prayer that has been a staple in addiction recovery since the 1940s. From his own experience and taking a closer look at the prayer’s deeper history, he has come to believe that this age-old prayer has a vital missing element. In The Gratitude Element, Scannell invites readers to take a new look at an old prayer and see how giving thanks is a natural and essential ingredient in an appeal for serenity, courage, and wisdom.
